Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Somerset

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a well-established and community-focused veterinary clinic in Somerton, located in the picturesque Somerset countryside. Close to Langport, Yeovil, and Taunton, this clinic offers excellent road, rail, and air links to the rest of the UK.

The clinic, housed in a charming building with period features, has served the local community for many years and boasts a strong client base. It is well-equipped with modern facilities, including digital X-ray, ultrasound, in-house laboratory machines, a multiparameter anaesthetic monitor, and various nursing aids.

We are currently seeking a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join this close-knit team. The ideal candidate will possess a wealth of experience (UK or equivalent) and demonstrate confidence as an all-rounder while providing clinical leadership to the team. This role offers an excellent work-life balance, with flexible hours available and only one Saturday morning shift in three.

Role Accountabilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide exceptional clinical care to patients during consultations and procedures
  • Ensure clear communication with clients, offering updates on their pets’ health
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional excellence and compliance
  • Prepare accurate estimates for clients to ensure timely payment and minimize debt
  • Collaborate closely with the Practice Manager to enhance commercial performance
  • Engage, mentor, and develop team members, maximizing their skills
  • Inspire the team by sharing best practices and implementing evolving standards
  • Complete clinical handovers and arrange transfers for patients needing additional care
  • Actively share clinical best practices across the wider veterinary community

Your Skills and Experience

  • RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
  • Proven clinical leadership skills
  • Experience in delivering exceptional care to both patients and clients
  • Strong understanding of how exceptional care improves client experience
  • Experience in fostering a progressive clinical culture
  • Ability to drive strong commercial performance through effective clinical management
  • Excellent team collaboration skills
  • Proficient in coaching and influencing to bring out the best in colleagues
